MATCH PREVIEW

FLYING Ryan Douglas has more than played his part in propelling Leicester to the top of the Championship ahead of Saturday night’s showdown with Edinburgh (7.30).

The Watling JCB Lions ace has been racking up the points on the road since coming back from a dislocated shoulder, aiding the collection of four points from away fixtures against the Monarchs and Newcastle late last month.
That was backed up by a best-yet at Beaumont Leys, 12-paid-14 in the 58-32 beating of Birmingham a fortnight ago that proved a sure-fire signal of the Aussie’s intent heading into Leicester's busy June schedule.
“It was great to get a good home score, I have had an up-and-down start to the year even though I have been riding alright,” said Douglas.
“A few crashes kept me out but when I have been on the bike I have scored fairly well, even on tracks that haven’t suited me in the past so that’s a big bonus.
“At home it has been okay, a bit on and off, but I felt really comfortable against Birmingham and had good speed. If I can carry that on I feel confident about having a good year.
“Maybe the away meetings have helped my head a bit, knowing I can do it and make good starts. If I can concentrate on that and get out in front it makes life a lot easier.”
Sheffield and Wolves charger Kyle Howarth will be Douglas’s partner in crime against Edinburgh with Josh Bates away on Speedway Grand Prix qualifying duty.
The Monarchs also have a guest at number three with Paul Starke in for the injured Josh Pickering.
Averages see Ellis Perks step up to the main body of the team, swapping places with Connor Mountain for the Lions.
